Resurrection Sunday Poem

"But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep."
1 Corinthians 15:20

The Lord gave Hannah this beautiful poem yesterday morning.  Enjoy!

A Poem for Resurrection Sunday
Written by: Hannah Wassenberg
Date: April 1st, 2010
Late one evening on the Mount to the right,
My Friend and My Master prayed earnestly in the night
Little knowing the sacrifice He was to pay with His life
My brothers and I slept on until near daylight

Awakened by the sound of the Master’s voice saying,
“Why dost thou sleep, why aren’t thou praying?”
And while He yet spoke another was exclaiming,
“Greetings, Rabbi” is was Judas who was betraying

Drawing my sword I struck off Malthus’ ear
But the Lord said to me, “Permit even this, you hear.”
Arrested, they took Him to the High priest of the year
John and I followed wanting to be near.

John let me in the Priest’s courtyard that night
And a servant girl said, “You’re with Him, am I not right?”
Afraid for my life I shook my head and denied
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I lied

Two others stopped and said the same thing
But I was ashamed and denied everything
The third time it happened a rooster began crowing
The Lord turned and looked for He is all knowing.

Remembering the Lord’s words at supper a night ago
“You’ll betray me three times then a rooster will crow.”
Ashamed and guilty I hurried to go
And wept bitterly for forgiveness which was freely bestowed.

“Barabbas, Barabbas,” the crowd cried today
In the fury of the mob Jesus was handed away
Beat and bruised His life He freely gave
For the sake of the world that He loved and was to save.

Crucified and buried 3 days since have past
When gathered together Mary came into the room fast,
“Jesus is risen, come and see,” she said at last
John and I ran to the tomb in a blast

Looking in the tomb it was open and empty
We turned away marveling, for we had thought she had been just kidding
Yet later that day while we all were sitting,
Jesus appeared fully alive and living.

Believe and have faith that Jesus is King
He’ll return one day, just you wait and see
Until then remember to give yourself and bring
Your whole life to Him and live for the King.

Footnote (Hannah speaking):

This poem was given to me under inspiration of God three days before Resurrection Sunday. I was doing my devotions and felt the Lord lead me to write this poem. The poem is written from the perspective of Peter, the disciple I think most of us can relate to. I hope it captures the true meaning of Resurrection Sunday and gives you an overwhelming love for this King and God who died for you and me. May you be blessed this Sunday!
