State Fair Projects

"Send me, therefore, a man skilled to work in gold and silver, bronze and iron, and in purple, crimson and blue yarn, and experienced in the art of engraving, to work in Judah and Jerusalem with my skilled craftsmen, whom my father David provided."

2 Chronicles 2:7

Yesterday Hannah, Alexis, Mommy and I went on the State Fair of VA site (statefair.com) and figured out how to enter some of the Youth Art & Craft Departments. Here's the list of all that we're doing (Hannah down to Seth):

Hannah:

Buttermilk Rolls (her really good ones!)

4019 Colored Pencil - Mounted (basically a hand-drawn picture using colored pencils)

Alexis:

4019 Colored Pencil - Mounted

1303 Sculptural Clay Non-Fired

2625 Children Pictures '5x7'

This is the picture Lexi is entering. This was taken on Resurrection Sunday this year. She did a wonderful job!

Kimber:

4019 Colored Pencil - Mounted
2625 Children Pictures "5x7"
2619 Scenic and Architectural Photos "5x7"
(scroll down to see my options..)

Those are all the pictures I've slimmed down to for the Scenic and Architectural Photos. (Acutally I have lots but I had to pick one - that was hard) I'm having a really hard time picking. Mommy and Na-naw (my grandma) think the butterflies with the blue sky in the background should be it out of the butterfly catergory. If you're wondering where I took those pictures..in our front yard, on our apple tree this spring. Next I'm going to ask daddy and see what he thinks.

*Update*

Daddy picked the butterfly picture with the blue background - so that's it!

I'm also doing humor. This is the picture we picked...

I think that one is a good one. Don't you? Something suspicious about those "extra" pair of ears back there...and those hands...

Caleb:

1303 Sculptural Clay Non-Fired

Seth:

4019 Colored Pencil - Mounted

1303 Sculptural Clay Non-Fired

We're all working on our projects some way or another. Caleb and Seth are in the same age group so they'll be going 'against' each other, Alexis and I are in the same age group so we're going "against" each other also but Hannah's alone. She thinks she might lose because her age group is 14-18. We'll let you know how things turn out.

Beach Trip 2008

"You rule the raging of the sea; When its waves rise, You still them."

Psalm 89:9

As I've said before, we had a wonderful beach vacation! The weather was beautiful, the ocean was the clearest I've ever seen and it barely rained. Lots of wonderful family time, superb food and more! Jesus truly was blessing our week together!

Paw-paw (our grandpa) made breakfast every morning but one. The food was wonderful - especially the blueberry pancakes! Mommy made Mexican for her dinner night (Every family has a dinner night where they make the dinner. We have Mexican, Italian, Chicken and more). My cousins, Erika and Allie slept in the same room as Hannah, Alexis and I (Kimber). We laughed a lot - it is a blessing to have the family we have!

The slide show I made of our vacation is below. Enjoy!

1st Day of School 2008

"And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes."

Deuteronomy 6:6-8

Today we started up school again. We really didn't do any school though. Just planning, talking and making up ideas! Actually, NO school at all. But the pictures of everyone on the "1st Day of School" makes it at least look like we started school! I tried to keep the pictures in order of youngest to oldest but I forgot Seth so he's first. We are officially starting school tomorrow, mommy just has to finalize the schedule. I'll let you know how it goes!

Seth

Our Principal and Main School Teacher (only)! :)

Hannah

Kimber and Lydia. Lydia doesn't really qualify for the 1st day of school but she was so cute she just had to be in the picture! :)

Sorry for the late post. We did arrive home safely from the beach Saturday afternoon. I took 300 something pictures, so I don't have space to put them all on here but I have made a 10 minute 44 second long slide show of our vacation that I'm going to post hopefully Thursday or Wednesday. All of the prayers I posted were answered in one way or another. I did get stung by a jellyfish but I never really felt anything (not saying that for self-edification or anything) :).

On Labor Day we did exactly as it says - "Labor!" Hannah and I (Kimber) peeled, chopped, soaked etc. a 6-gallon bucket full of pears. We got the pears from a lady's house in trade of daddy trimming all her fruit trees. Her husband has 2 diseases of some sort so he's not able to get out and prune them. They have pear (30 ft. tall tree), peach, apple and fig trees. (I guess for the figs it would be 'bush' instead of 'tree') Not all of the trees are mature enough to eat off though. Anyways that took most of the morning and then after lunch we made peach jam and peach sauce. The peach jam is really good (when you're the stirrer you get to lick the utensils when done!) The peach sauce is sour but mommy likes it that way, so...

I hope everyone of you had a wonderful Labor Day celebrating our God-ordained thing to do - work!
